The National Association of State Contractors Licensing Agencies (NASCLA) is a nonprofit corporation that was formed in 1962 and is dedicated to assisting its members in regulating construction contractors.  NASCLA represents more than 30 state contractor licensing agencies, as well as over 40 construction firms, contractor trade associations and other professional organizations that are affiliated with the construction industry.

NASCLA holds an Annual Conference every fall which provides our members with the opportunity to come together to discuss issues relevant to the regulation of the construction industry.  This year’s conference is scheduled for September 14-17, 2008 in Point Clear, Alabama. NASCLA’s Annual Conference is fast becoming a must attend event for all who are involved in the construction regulatory industry. The conference truly is a unique opportunity for all who attend!

I am pleased to announce that NASCLA will be presenting, for the fourth time, the Community Service in Contracting Award at the Annual Conference.  The Community Service in Contracting Award was designed as a way to recognize the positive impact that contractor or construction related association’s have on their communities through their generous donations to charities.  This award will be given to the winner at the Annual Conference Banquet on Wednesday, September 17, 2008.

This first-class event pays tribute to the construction industry as a whole and recognizes the tremendous charitable projects it accomplishes for our communities. National trade associations contribute to numerous charitable projects each year, and while the construction community and the recipients of the assistance know about this generosity, the banquet provides a public forum for these trade associations to shine in the spotlight.

It is our sincerest hope that you will submit the attached nomination form for this year’s Community Service in Contracting Award.  We are looking forward to another successful and memorable event in Point Clear. I hope you will participate and attend NASCLA’s 46th Annual Conference in Point Clear.

Sincerely,

Kathy LeCroix

NASCLA President

2007 Award Winner: Habitat for Humanity International Home Builders Blitz

The National Association of State Contractors Licensing Agencies (NASCLA) is pleased to   announce that the Habitat for Humanity International Home Builders Blitz 2006 is the winner of the 2007 Community Service in Contracting Award.

The Community Service in Contracting Award is a national award that was created as a way for NASCLA and its many members to recognize the positive impact that contractors and construction related associations have on their communities. All too often, homeowners and consumers hear the “bad” stories about contractors.  With this award, NASCLA showcases the “good” stories about these individuals and groups who contribute so much to their communities by raising funds and donating their time, labor and materials to local charities.  NASCLA’s Executive Committee was honored to give the 2007 Community Service in Contracting Award away to an organization that has been dedicated to improving our communities in the U.S. and abroad for over 30 years.

The first national Habitat for Humanity International Home Builders Blitz in 2006 was the vision of one man, Tom Gipson, who wanted to help eliminate substandard housing in his community.  In 2002, Mr. Gipson, a professional home builder in Raleigh, North Carolina recruited 11 of his competitors to build 12 homes in five days for people in need.  They were able to accomplish their goals and successfully raise $100,000 in cash, which covered the project costs and contributed to the land developments costs.  With the success of this accelerated build and a subsequent build in 2003, Mr. Gipson brought his idea to Habitat for Humanity International and thus the first national Home Builders Blitz in 2006 was brought to light.

The Home Builders Blitz 2006 was an unbelievable feat which produced 459 new, single family homes in 130 communities across the United States in just one week!  Over 1,000 professional home builders along with over 25,000 volunteers were able to provide approximately 1,500 people with a simple, decent place of their own to call home.  Today, this nationwide event consisting of professional homebuilders and volunteers who support Habitat for Humanity’s cause has grown to roughly 200 cities.  The next Home Builders Blitz is scheduled for the first week of June 2008.  For more information on the Home Builders Blitz 2008, please visit the Habitat for Humanity website at www.habitat.org.

Donna Bosley accepted the award on behalf of Habitat for Humanity International on Friday, September 28 at NASCLA’s 2007 Annual Conference Banquet and Installation of Officers.  Ms. Bosley has a long history of serving her community and industry and is a founding member of the Habitat for Humanity International Women Build Steering Council as well as a founding member of Habitat for Humanity of Saline County, Arkansas.  She has served as President, Construction Chairperson, continuing board member, and the Habitat for Humanity Home Builders Blitz co-chair for two years.  Ms. Bosley also served as President of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Women’s Council and has served several terms on the NAHB Executive Committee.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the Home Builders Blitz 2006 winner of the 2007 Community Service in Contracting Award! Your continued support made this event a tremendous success.
