Spring is here and it’s time for renewal and rejuvenation.  Over the past four months, NASCLA has continued to enjoy a period of growth and expansion which has propelled us forward as we continue to move through 2008.

The association just held its annual Mid Year Meeting where our committee’s worked productively to accomplish many of their goals, the Board of Directors approved PSI’s application for NASCLA-Approved Provider status and we met with members of the California Contractors State License Board.  The Mid Year Meeting was held in the breathtakingly beautiful city of Santa Barbara, California where the mountains meet the sea and the weather was as perfect as the Ocean was blue and you couldn’t help but think of the lyrics to a Beach Boys song.

It was a pleasure meeting with members of the California Contractors State License Board in their home state and I enjoyed introducing them to NASCLA.  The Board Members were able to join us for an exciting city and harbor tour as well as dinner on Tuesday night where we were all able to say hello and get acquainted with one another.

In addition to the excitement of the Mid Year Meeting, NASCLA’s Committee’s and Staff have been working hard to prepare for the next quarter.   NASCLA’s Executive Committee and Fiscal Policies and Procedures Committee will be meeting on June 23 – 24, 2008 in Chicago, Illinois.  The Model Legislation Committee is currently working on legislation for Residential Builders and has set their next meeting for July 29 – 30, 2008 in Phoenix, Arizona.  The Program Committee has set the agenda for the 2008 Annual Conference which is scheduled for September 14 – 18, 2008 in Point Clear, Alabama.

On another note, NASCLA’s membership continues to increase and as of March 12, 2008 the association has received 40 new memberships since 2005.  As a way to introduce our current members to these new members we have included a Spotlight section in the quarterly Newsletter.  This quarter I am pleased to introduce you to the Idaho State Contractors Board.  We have been working closely with Budd Hetrick (Deputy Bureau Chief), Steve Pinther (Board Member) and Roger Hales (Legal Counsel) to address the common problems facing our industry.

I thoroughly enjoyed our time together in Santa Barbara and I am eagerly looking forward to welcoming y’all to Point Clear, Alabama in September.

Sincerly,

Kathy LeCroix
NASCLA President
