The NASCLA Accredited Examination Program offers a standardized trade exam for participating state agencies, increasing mobility across the following examination classifications:
• NASCLA Accredited Examination for Commercial General Building Contractors
• NASCLA Accredited Trade Examination for Electrical Contractors (Master Electricians/Unlimited Electricians)
• NASCLA Accredited Examination for Journeyman Electricians
• NASCLA Accredited Trade Examination for Residential Electrical Contractors
Applying for the Exam
- Go to the NASCLA National Examination Database (NED): ned.nascla.org to submit your application and $65 application fee.
- Applications are typically processed within 7 business days.
- An approved application is good for 1 year on the date the application was approved. During that year, the candidate has up to 3 chances to take and pass the exam.
- If the candidate uses all 3 attempts or the 1 year expires, they must apply again as a “Re-Applicant” at ned.nascla.org using the same NASCLA Candidate ID number (NASCC****).
Scheduling the Exam
- Once the application is approved, the candidate will receive an email from support@psiexams.com containing a candidate ID number (NASCC****) and the PSI link to schedule an exam online.
- You can schedule your exam at PSI's Test Takers website.
- Candidates may take the exam at any PSI location that offers the exam. A candidate does NOT need to reside in the state they are wanting to gain licensure.
Passing the Exam
- After passing the exam, the candidate will receive a score report showing they passed.
- The PSI pass report is the only paper proof that the exam was taken and passed.
- There will not be a numerical score given or breakdown of content that was answered incorrectly once the exam is passed.
Final Steps
- Return to the NASCLA National Examination Database (NED) or ned.nascla.org and create a user account.
- This account will be used to link the candidate's score to their profile and will allow candidates to purchase their exam transcripts.
- Please do not create more than one account as this will delay the linkage process.
- Accounts may take up to 72 hours to be linked after PSI's estimated wait time of result uploads.
Transcripts
- Once the account is linked, a candidate will have the ability to purchase transcripts. This notifies state agencies that the candidate has taken and passed a NASCLA exam and is ready to proceed with their licensure.
- Individual transcript(s) are purchased separately for each desired state agency.
- Each state transcript(s) is $45 and are valid for two (2) years.
- Transcripts are only available for state agencies electronically. Candidates will not receive their own copy of transcripts.
More Information
The NASCLA Accredited Examination Program makes it easier to meet the trade exam requirement for a Commercial General Building or Electrical license in states that accept it. After passing the exam, candidates can use NASCLA’s National Examination Database (NED) at ned.nascla.org to send their exam results to approved states. Candidates must still apply to the state to get their license. If a candidate does not qualify, they will receive an email explaining what is missing. An application will not be processed until all required items and fees are submitted.
Cheating Policy
Candidates who cheat or attempt to cheat on examinations within the NASCLA Accredited Examination Program , or who otherwise breach the Agency’s security policies and procedures, will have their examination scores invalidated, will forfeit all fees, be barred from reapplying to take the examination for a period of 12 months, may be subject to legal action and will be further subject to all examination and fee requirements in place at the time or re-application. If a candidate cheats or attempts to cheat on the Examination which is administered by an entity other than the Agency, the candidate will also need to follow the re-take policy set in place by that entity, with the stricter of the two policies being applicable. Candidates who attempt to steal Examination information could face a range of administrative, civil and criminal charges.
