Traditional economic theory on occupational licensing says that licensing raises wages for practitioners and restricts employment growth in licensed occupations. New analysis from CSG tests the theory with state level data on specific occupations by comparing licensed states to unlicensed states. This session will provide information regarding new analysis that opposes traditional theory, illustrate interstate compacts to licensure portability, and explain how licensing affects wages and employment for certain construction trades.
